Staying healthy in the Inner West: Sporting grounds across the region

For those interested in remaining fit and healthy when moving into Sydney's Inner West suburbs, there are many sporting grounds and parks available for residents to enjoy. These can be put to use as exercise arenas, allowing you to keep the blood pumping and reap the benefits of physical activity.

Balmain Road Sporting Ground

Located in Callan Park, this local sporting ground is home to a number of sports clubs - including football teams during the winter months. However, it is open and available for personal training and could be a fantastic location for you and your family to go jogging together.

Furthermore, if there aren't any games being played in the area, it's possible to keep your dog off the leash, giving your furry friend a chance to stretch its legs across this vast green field located right in the middle of the Balmain suburb. 

Birchgrove Oval

One of the first publicly developed parks in Sydney, the Birchgrove Oval is a stunning sporting centre and one of Leichhardt's premier sport and recreation attractions. In fact, the park has a special place in Australia's history as being the first place to host a professional match of rugby league back in 1908. 

During the summer, you'll often find cricket teams busting out the whites and spending the warm summer days in the sun. During the winter, the field is overtaken by football and rugby teams, giving it an all-year-round attraction for people across the city to come into the Birchgrove suburb. 

Blackmore Oval

Blackmore Oval is found in the suburb of Leichhardt and is a fantastic place for rugby league during the cooler winter months. It is home to the oldest rugby league club in Australia - the Liechhardt Wanderers -  that was formed in 1911. 

Open to the general public for exercise, this could be another enjoyable location for people to enjoy a healthy, sustainable lifestyle in Sydney's Inner West suburbs.
