City of Canada Bay honoured with sustainability award

The Sustainable Cities program aims to recognise "outstanding environmental initiatives" being put to good use by local governments, schools, businesses and community groups throughout the state.
City of Canada Bay mayor Angelo Tsirekas said in a July 31 statement that a combination of the area's various new initiatives that had helped them win the Overall Sustainable Council award
"Some of the projects acknowledged as part of the award included our $3.7 million ‘Water for the Community’ stormwater project; our Community Energy Efficiency Program; new trials on waste processing; our commitment to sustainable events; and a range of other recycling initiatives to name a few," Mr Tsirekas said.
"It is wonderful to be rewarded for our environmental commitment in front of our peers and to be acknowledged as the most outstanding council in NSW."
The City of Canada Bay was assessed on their approach towards environmental sustainability, and won the award due to the diversity and quality of the projects throughout the area.
