Dawn Fraser Baths: One of Balmain's best kept secrets

Fans of water sports could be in for a treat if they're investigating real estate in Sydney's Inner West suburbs, with the Dawn Fraser Baths offering a heritage swimming experience.

The pool was built back in the 1880s and is one of the oldest swimming pools and clubs in Australia. It has been preserved through the years after being declared a heritage building through the National trust, as well as on the Register of the National Estate.

One of the unique features of the pool is the fact it's a tidal flow saltwater swimming hole.

This means that at low tide it's possible to experience a 'mini-beach' around the edge of the water, making it perfect for relaxing on the sand while watching the action in the water. Small children can even amuse themselves with building sandcastles and other ocean-side activities.

Furthermore, the Balmain Swimming Club is one of the oldest in Australia and caters to all ages, from young newcomers through to 'Golden Oldies' - everyone is welcome to come along to stay active and healthy together.

The water quality is tested each and every day by Harbourwatch, which ensures it remains top-notch at all times. While this means that sometimes after heavy rain the pool may be closed, it will be reopened once the quality of the water is back to a satisfactory level.

Generally, the temperature of the pool between October and April is between 19 and 23 degrees celsius, while the showering facilities at the venue are kept warm through the use of solar power - making it a fantastic, sustainable part of the Balmain region.

The pool is available for after hours hirage as well, so it's a perfect amenity to have closeby for anyone with children or others interested in having a celebration or birthday party.
