Pets in Leichhardt: Ensuring your animals are safe and secure

If you're considering moving into one of Sydney's Inner West suburbs in the near future with pets, it could be worth investigating the rules surrounding their safety and protection in the region. This will help you undertake all the necessary steps to ensure your furry friends can have a happy, healthy existence.

Rules and Regulations

All animals need to have microchips and contact information at all times help facilitate the identification and recovery process in the event that they manage to get out without your supervision. Furthermore, it's recommended to have your animal companion desexed.

It's also important to give your animal friends their proper vaccinations in order to make their lives in the Inner West as happy and healthy as possible.

There are a wide range of walking areas for you to take your dog where they are likely to interact with other canine friends, so having them protected from any diseases or infections that can occur is a great preventative step to take.

For families who own cats, the rules are a little different surrounding pet ownership. For example, all cats born after 1 July 1999 must be Lifetime Registered by the time they're six months old, or when ownership changes hands.

It's also recommended to desex these animals as well. Attaching bells to the collar of your cat is advised, in order to help protect native birds and other animals from attacks.

Registering your pet

In order to get your pet registered for life in the New South Wales system, you will need to provide a certificate that proves your animal has been microchipped from your vert, as well as proof of the desexing. These are all there to help prevent any unforeseen complications taking place, which can end up being costly and unfortunate in the long run.
